SOUTH CAROLINA STATE FAIR-FINE ART COMPETITION
South Carolina State Fair 2025 – Columbia, SC, I’m honored to have two of my black & white photographs selected for display in the Professional Division at the South Carolina State Fair, the largest art competition in the state. The fair runs October 8–19, 2025, in the Cantey Building.
Both images are part of the Special Awards Category, representing unique scenes from South Carolina. They will be available for purchase following the close of the show.

- “Blessing of the Hounds” – Aiken, SC
This annual Thanksgiving tradition, first held in 1914, marks the start of the hunt season in the historic Hitchcock Woods. - “Edge of Solitude” – Myrtle Beach, SC
Taken at the far northern stretch of Myrtle Beach, this scene captures the quiet stillness of the shoreline—an image I believe reflects the spirit of the state.
Thrilled to share some good news!
My photo “Drawn to the Light” was awarded 3nd Place in the Eye Wide Open juried photography show at the North Augusta Arts & Heritage Center — an exhibit featuring 20 incredibly talented photographers from across the CSRA.
Huge thanks to the Arts & Heritage Center and to judge Gerald Woods for the honor!
About the image:
I didn’t stop because the light was perfect — I stopped because it was true.
The fog hid the world, but not the light. That lone, bare tree in the center felt like the anchor for the whole scene.
It reminds me that light doesn’t always show us everything… just enough to take the next step forward.
Exhibit runs through July 31, 2025 — well worth a visit!

Join us for the public reception and awards ceremony on June 19, from 5–8 PM. All artwork is available for purchase, with a portion of each sale directly supporting the center’s ongoing mission to promote the arts in our community. Image Title and Description:
"WHERE THE MOUNTAINS BREATHE"
The image captures a serene autumnal scene in the uppermost corner of South Carolina, likely near the Blue Ridge Escarpment & Lake Jocassee region. In the foreground, a group of herring gulls rests and interacts peacefully on the calm, reflective surface of a large body of water.
The water mirrors the surrounding environment, contributing to a tranquil and immersive atmosphere.
The backdrop is dominated by rugged mountain terrain, gently cloaked in the vibrant hues of fall foliage—a mix of warm oranges, golden yellows, and deep reds, interspersed with the lingering greens of coniferous trees. The rolling peaks rise into the distance, some partially shrouded in a soft haze, adding depth and a sense of grandeur to the scene.
The overall mood is peaceful and contemplative, showcasing the quiet beauty of nature during the transitional season. The presence of the gulls adds a dynamic wildlife element to the otherwise still landscape, grounding the viewer in a specific moment in time.

"SCENE OF A MEMORY"
This photograph is a study of time made visible. Old Starr’s Mill, built in 1866, bears the marks of a working past — a monument to Southern industry, ingenuity, and endurance. Though its grinding wheels ceased turning in 1907, its frame still stands, weathered but proud. For a brief moment in 2002, cinema brought the mill back to life, reawakening its presence in the public memory through Sweet Home Alabama. My intention was to honor that blend of legacy and renewal, capturing not just a structure, but a spirit — a quiet survivor of history, still speaking through wood, steel, and shadow.

"CRADLE OF THE CLOUDS"
This image showcases a scenic mountain landscape with a mix of natural elements. The foreground is filled with lush green grass and various shrubs, while large rock formations, including a prominent angled slab of rock on the right, add dramatic texture to the scene.
Dense evergreen trees, possibly firs or spruces, form a backdrop that stretches toward the horizon.
The view opens up to a vast expanse of blue-hued mountains under a partly cloudy sky, suggesting a high elevation with cool, misty air. The lighting is soft, with sunlight diffused by the cloud cover, casting gentle shadows and enhancing the rich colors of the foliage and rocks. The overall scene evokes a sense of peace, solitude, and natural beauty — likely a location popular with hikers or nature photographers.
This image was awarded 2nd Place in the juried “Open Session” exhibition at the Arts & Heritage Center of North Augusta.
I'm honored to have this piece recognized among so many talented artists.

" A BEND IN TIME"
This photo captures a serene, tree-lined river—the Savannah River Canal—flowing gently through a lush, green landscape. The trees are in early spring foliage, displaying various shades of green and yellow. The calm water reflects the sky and surrounding nature, while a rocky hill rises in the distance under a clear blue sky. The image has a soft, painterly quality that enhances its tranquil and picturesque feel.
"While recently taking my camera out for a bit of exercise—and to keep my mind’s eye sharp—I came upon this scene. It struck me as something that deserved to be captured, not just for my archives,
but to eventually hang on someone’s wall, beyond my own."

" SHOW ME THE WAY"
This images was awarded "Peoples Choice Award" at the opening reception at the annual art show for the North Augusta Artist Guild at the Arts & Heritage Center in North Augusta on Nov 18, 2021. The image was taken in the Ace Basin , in the low country of SC. I had the idea of using a wide angle lens in the vertical mode to capture the whole vision that I was seeing, from the road thru the Spanish moss to the beautiful blue sky, I don't normally see a wide angle lens being used this way, but in this case I feel it worked quite well! |
